Bathroom Coating
by Tal Potishman
Bathroom coatings have been around for quite some time, however have only technologically improved in their performance in recent years. Before they had the appearance of varnish-like silicon products. Nowadays they are more akin to today's hydrophobic layers, engineered at molecular level. They have improved so much, that now consumers can be assured that they will be protected from limescale, soap scum and other dirt particles.
A major reason why many people choose to invest in coating their bathroom is the act that they will have to clean less. Coating prevents the build up of dirt or lime, thus do not need cleaning products to keep the surfaces clean. In fact, many manufacturers actively advise people who have coating to avoid using chemical cleaners as they can damage the surface.
So how do coated surfaces compare to other bathroom surfaces? Other bathroom surfaces are hydrophilic. This allows or lime and other sorts of particles to build up and sit on the surface. If neglected over a period of time, these can create a corrosive process that can cause damage at molecular level. You will not have this problem with coatings as they act to repel these particles. The coatings act to keep lime and other particles from building up.
What is the difference?
The statistics have reported that around 46 million every year is reckoned to be spent specifically on bathroom cleaners, plus another 117 million on liquid bleach and disinfectants and 14 million on limescale removers. These are huge figures, and there is no doubt that if even a proportion of this could be used instead on protective coatings in the bathroom - the impact on the environment will be significant.
The impact on the environment
By using protective coating in your bathroom, you will be able to cut down on your costs on chemical cleaning products. This will in turn help minimise the amount of harmful chemicals being released into the environment.
Coating your bathroom will not only help the environment considerably, but will also reduce your time spent in cleaning. This will have a positive impact on your household bills, as you will be able to downgrade your expenditure on cleaning products, As more household owners become aware of their actions impacting the environment, more are seeking ways in which they can make their actions positive.
It is obvious that most consumers do not prioritise how eco-friendly the product will be when making a decision. It's style, function and price are all important factors in the decision-making process. The challenge facing most manufacturers today is how to integrate the eco advantage of this product without compromising on another very important factor; price.
Coating is not just in the interest of general consumers. If this idea is expanded in the business world, then this could prove to have a bigger and more positive impact on the environment.
